NY Times Endorses Saving the Net Through Net Neutrality

Posted by Filed under Save the Net.

I’ve written several previous posts about Net Neutrality.

The battle for Net Neutrality is still being waged.

Supporters of free speech and equal access to the internet are slowly starting to gain ground.

They gained an important ally last week in the New York Times.

An important New York Times editorial strongly endorsed Net Neutrality last week.

The editorial emphasized just how critical equal access to the internet is to advancing democracy and innovation.

And to giving voice to some points of view that may compete with the voice of enormously wealthy, powerful and influential cable and telephone companies.

Read this important New York Times editorial: Protecting Internet Democracy.

But the first net-stop for any internet user who wants to support the cause of Net Neutrality remains the home of the Save the Internet campaign. Additional support is still needed and welcomed by the movement.

Free Speech on, and Equal Access to the Internet is Slipping Away from Bloggers - and You

Posted by Filed under Save the Net.

The battle to preserve internet and blogging freedom is still raging, but the scales are tipping toward the lobbyist-rich large media companies that want to control the internet, and by whom and for what it is used.

The Save the Internet campaign has made it incredibly easy to see where your very own senators stand - if they have chosen to let their constituents know where they stand.

For example, Florida’s Senator Bill Nelson supports internet freedom - and, as a result, those of us who bring you much wanted information through our blogging.

The Florida Divorce Law Blog commends and supports Senator Nelson’s support of Net Neutrality.

By contrast, Florida’s Senator Mel Martinez has not taken a public stand on Net Neutrality.

It’s July 28th. Time is running out on Free Speech on, and Equal Access to the Internet.

Do you know where your Senators stand?

You have a right to know. If you want to, just visit the graphical Save the Internet Map of US Senators.

If you don’t like what you learn about your senators’ positions on Net Neutrality = Internet Freedom, you can sign a petition and/or write to your senator(s) to let your senator(s) know how you feel - without even leaving your computer.

If you are a Floridian and support Florida blogs like this one, consider contacting Senator Martinez and urging him to join Senator Nelson in non-partisan support of both Florida’s Internet Coast and internet freedom throughout the US, on behalf of his individual and small business constituents throughout Florida.

Blogs Threatened - Save the Internet Before It’s Too Late

Posted by Filed under Miscellaneous, Save the Net.

I’ve previously posted about the defending campaign to Save the Internet Now: Act to Preserve Free Speech and Equal Access.

Blogs are under imminent threat.

By pending legislative telecom reforms that may end the net neutrality the public has benefited from since the beginning of the world wide web.

But Congress can still end that threat - and see to it that the various weblogs you read for valuable, free information, are here to stay.

Blogs like this one. And the ones we link to. And countless others.

If you want to protect the blogs you read, you owe it to yourself to read more about the threat to blogs in this informative article, Digital Gatekeepers, written by the the host of a weekly radio show on WHPK, the radio station of the University of Chicago, who is also a contributor to Chicago Indymedia and Third Coast Press, and an organizer with Chicago Media Action.

The time to Save the Internet is just about up.

And if you want to Save the Internet and support blogs (like this one, the ones we link to and countless others), act right now. Call, fax or e-mail your Senators - today.

Save the Internet Now: Act to Preserve Free Speech and Equal Access

Posted by Filed under Miscellaneous, Save the Net.

Certain large telecommunications corporations are reportedly agitating to change how the internet works, has been working, since its inception.

These media enterprises want to regulate and control who gets to publish on the internet and, by extension, what gets published on the internet.

Look back on the (d)evolution of much of the traditional print media.

The internet is the last communications medium offering equal access to free, independent speech.

If you support those core values, as this site does, please visit the homepage for the Save the Internet campaign and consider signing the non-partisan petition to preserve network neutrality, free speech on the internet and equal access to the internet’s publishing infrastructure.

If you don’t act now, many of the websites that you now visit for free, independent legal (and other) information that you can’t get anywhere else - just may get shut down or virtually crippled in the near future.

Let your voice be heard.

Please Save the Net.

Before it’s too late.
